Taare Zameen Par.

Aamir, u r really what u r called.
A perfectionist.
wht a movie have you made.
i m totally drooled.

Darsheel Safary as a central character having dislaxia in first stage.
he simply does a rocking act.
Aamir, though the director of the movie, dont try to overshadow anybody.
The whole lookout is so beautiful, that u get back to your school days.
when u got punished, got your feet in mud, got amazed by little little things of the world. loved paintings, do paintings.

Creative director and script writer Amole's brainchild was this movie.
he uses animation so beautifully in whole movie.
Title sequence as well as in between the movie animation is so good, that one now thinks 'cartoons are not only for children'.

The theme of paintings is very very good. So colorful the movie is.
Though aamir hasnt tried any fashionable shots to show off his directorial skills.

Songs and music is SO SO SO VERY GOOD. Shankar's voice just wrenches our hearts in title song and 'Maa...' and not to forget 'Mera Jahaan' [lines like 'a little sweet a little sour....sung by children are too good too good'

i get lump in throat when listening most of the songs. songs just carries off the movie.

by the time movie passes, your opinion towards Children is changed. because who knows, a child like Ishaan may be amongst us, may be ourselves. [which is true to some sort for me] You feel so much attached to Ishaan's character. And he just gets into your hearts.

He has given a really sound role. One scene in which father of Ishaan comes to him to tell 'he does care for his child' and then Aamir replies'khayal rakhna.....' the whole scene he sounds so controlled and so mature.
The climax is shot so beautifully as well as whole movie.

This is the one, to bid farewell to 'not so great movies' year of 2007. Hats off Aamir, You Rock.

i wish.....

i wish if my eyes were a camera

that it could capture..
a mother passing on road,
playing with her child,
pleasing him with just a cold pouch of milk.

that it could capture..
that inquisitiveness
in eyes of a girl
meeting a boy.

that it could capture..
an aged man on railway platform
licking ice cream cups,
thrown by passangers.

that it could capture..
a happy little shirtless boy,
eating an icecream on road,
after begging it from the vendor.

that it could capture..
worry on a working woman's face
returning home in a hurry
thinking of what to make for dinner
thinking of her little alone children

that it could capture..
feeling that i cant express in words
when a mother got to see
her son from hostel
returning home after months

that it could capture..
two friends standing in a balcony
suddenly one cries and hugs another
as another is going away forever
in other country

that it could capture..

..........my life.

A Craftsman's creation - 'Gandhi-My Father'

A perfect piece of handicraft. its what i can say about movie 'gandhi my father'. Each string of it is well woven, and so perfect that it catches u from the very first sequence.
Well the movie, starts of with Harilal [akshaye khanna] on the edge of his life. In a hospital. Being braught as a orphan, a beggr, a drunkard. Wardboy asks him his father’s name, he just says ‘bapu’. [well well where was this akshaye earlier?]. then the flash back starts.
Can u ever imagine Gandhiji as a young man doing normal things with family? No, but in this flick u oughta see that. Here he is having moments of fun with her wife and kids too. This is where director wins. He has taken the way never traveled. The story never been told. Okay there was a movie ‘making of mahatma’ which potrayed his earlier years. But as a parent, you can see him here. All known incidents at south Africa and things followed, are described as a background only.
Meanwhile Harilal is in Gujarat and merry Gulab [bhoomika chawla]. Father Gandhi[Darshan Jhariwala] didn’t like disobeying by his own son. He calles him in south Africa.
The first scene of them together is like a picture frame. Harilal comes and sits a step down to him. Just two shadows are here. Against a rising sun. simply superb camerawork.
Director used this thing at some crucial points of the movie which is really good new technique. Harilal takes lead in satyagrah at Africa. All scenes are in black and white & in style of motion picture which was ther at that time. Where hand operated cameras take images faster to make scene moving. Another good effort to make movie real.
Differences arise when Gandhiji don’t send Hari to London, to study low. That thing is offended by Kasturba, his wife [shefali shah]. A well acted scene. Shefali is pure natural as a mother and as a wife.
Then follows falls of Harilal and rise of Gandhi as ‘bapu’ and the story continues. Till the end of both persons’ life.
Akshaye simply gives a stupendous performance. He brings u to tears at some scenes.
One scene where he is defeated after failing in metric, three times, he runs intgo public and tells everyone that he’s worthless son of Gandhi.
And the other when his wife dies and he comes and weeps, simply hair raising act.
On the other hand, his better half Gulab, played by bhoomika, is also a controlled and silent act. Very well played.
As Gandhi, Darshan is very good. Its hard to playh a character, earlier played by who’s who of cinema like, Naseer and Ben kingsley. But we can see Darshan’s dedication to role. His body language, speech, everything is very well worked out,.
Shefali again as bhoomika, silent supporter to Gandhi and a careful mother to Hari. Is also good choice for character of Kasturba.
One scene of both Kasturba and Gandhiji is a highlight. After conversion of Religion of Hari; both of them sat at a sea shore in chairs. Again shadows works here as main element. Another scene when kasturba dies, is also like a picture frame. May be this is because feroz abbas khan the director- is a person of theater. So he knows shadows very well. And also the darkness.
On the rise of new nation, hari is lying in darkness. Very symbolic.
Background score is good. Gujarati songs are used at places. Sanskrit shlokas. Followed by Gandhiji’s favorite bhajans. At one time, in background of a scene from Ashram, a bhajan played at really soft voice, ‘sakal lok ma sahu ne vande ‘ Beautiful.

Many Gandhi’ists were worried about negative potrayel of gandhiji in movie. But there is no such thing. He is potrayed as he is. Audience can feel pain of Harilal but at the same time they don’t feel bad ‘bapu’. That’s very big plus point of this movie. This is surely gonna hit awards a big time. A must watch movie. A revival of Akshaye. A perfect movie. Hats off to both Feroz and Anil Kapoor for touching an untouched story.

Private Emotions

Every endless night has a dawning day
Every darkest sky has a shining ray
And it shines on you, baby can't you see
You're the only one, who can shine for me
It's a private emotion that fills you tonight
And a silence falls between us
As the shadows steal the light
And where ever you may find it
Where ever it may lead
Let your private emotion come to me
Come to me
Come to me
Come to me
When your soul is tired and your heart is weak
Do you think of love as a one way street
Well it runs both ways, open up your eyes
Can't you see me here, how can you deny
It's a private emotion that fills you tonight
And a silence falls between us
As the shadows steal the light
And where ever you may find it
Where ever it may lead
Let your private emotion come to me
Come to me
Come to me
Come to me
Every endless night has a dawning day
Every darkest sky has a shining ray
It takes a lot to laugh as your tears go by
But you can find me here till your tears run dry
It's a private emotion that fills you tonight
And a silence falls between us
As the shadows steal the light
And where ever you may find it
Where ever it may lead
Let your private emotion come to me
Let your private emotion come to me
Let your private emotion come to me
Come to me
Come to me

Get Ready for the Grand Finale !!!

That's wht this part of the series tells us. Yes, and what a way to tell that. Its a stunning combination of dazling special effects and human touch. So thrilling it is. when Harry casts his first spell in very first scene. I got goosebumps all over.

Sound effects are Thumping.
Acting is always a treat in the series.

I ran into tears several times. Once when in climax, Harry lying on the floor struggling with Voldemart. Simply Moving.
All in all a great one to set the ground for grand finale of the series !!

Life in a Metro........I'm Back

i have been so much stressed and busy this whole year to write something. Also my blogger account was lost due to NEW blogger service. anyways....today also i dont have a new draft. but a review which i have written a month ago. of movie Metro. Hope you will enjoy it.

Make way, chopras and johars, Bhatts are here….
I m not a big fan of them, but they are doing exceptionally well since last some movies. Giving damn cool music and amazing movies.
Heard Metro soundtrack?

Just see the movie.
Whole movie is carried forward by rock artists. They runs and directs story at different stages of the movie. This concept is really appreciable. Band comes and goes with songs. Sometimes singer james looks weird, but its okay.

Ok then,
Talking about the movie,
Starts of really well. With scenes of rainy Mumbai. Local trains buses, crowds, churchgate. And there she is, shilpa shetty, hey there is kangna ranaut too. Man this girl I tell u, she's simply superb. I just love her. Anyways, one by one all characters are weaved in just one scene. Then shilpa and kay kay 's scene is there. Then comes rock, Rishtey to nahi. With band metro.
Ohhhh god. This is what I wanted to hear. Rock on big screen.
All songs are simply rock. Then comes In dino, And then Alvida……..oh we love you mr.bhatt for bringing some rock to bollywood.
Songs are really into the movie, they keep story going on track. And deep into the story.
Everytime a song starts I get goosebumps. Ohhhhh..

Ya one thing is there, I am not going to tell u about characters and story because I hate it, if I tell u all, you will have nothing to watch. So go and watch movie, OTHERWISE YOU WILL REGRET.
It's a must watch.

Now, sharman joshi and kangna share a difficult relationship. So are all other characters. Shiney ahuja, konkona sen and irrfan khan, kay kay , all.
But so sweet surprise package of movie is dharamendra and nafisa ali.
A very sweet scene in starting of movie when dharamji crosses railway tracks to meet nafisa. Then they meet after 40 years, ohhhhhhhhhh…soooooooo sweet………

Shilpa shetty is really commendable. She and her face expressions. Her body, everything talks. All confrontation scenes between her and kay kay are too good to watch out for. So is kay kay as her husband.
Sharman joshi, a silent lover, kangna a little girl who thinks lust of her boss is love, and repeats roles or gangster, and woh lamhe, frustrated girl. She is the best at it. But beware kangna, don't keep repeating.

Who steals the show?
Konkona and irrfan. In their strangest relationship. But still likable. One of the highlight scene of the movie when the go to top of a building and shouts……oh god…we just keep laughing and our eyes keep crying.

Really good dialogues, I wish I could write some of them, I have to watch the movie again. Light moments with irrfan and konkona and sharmaan are also very good.

Cinematography is just too brilliant like we are sitting in a mumbaiya window and watching everything come alive. In one scene, while shilpa and shiney are going to make out, there is no light in the room. The whole scene is performed under lights of neon, outside the building. And symbolic red color. Oh, too brilliant.

One other scene keeps repeating in mind, is make out place of kangna and kay kay……..with busy Mumbai road outside the window.
Lights and lights….they do the works.
Some silent scenes….kangna removing her leg which is touching kay kay, when she hears conversation between kay kay and shilpa on phone….so symbolic.
In climax, confrontation between kay kay and shilpa…………..
Sharman's scenes………
Top of the building scene……..
Local trains………
Dharmendra and nafisa……….
Seamless weaving of characters and stories……………..
Alvida alvida………….

Anurag basu, the director,
One of the best in new crop.

I bow to thee.

One of the best movie in 2007
